About the Society

The Northamptonshire Classical Guitar and Lute Society was founded in 2009 with the aim of creating and furthering an interest in the classical guitar, lute and other related classical instruments in the county of Northamptonshire. The society's first year was a success thanks to the widespread support we received from our members and the community. Our second year saw the formation of the NCGLS guitar ensemble which will be making its first public appearance in Spring 2011. Currently the society is making steady progress towards achieving its goals and ambitions.

Our Aims & Ambitions

The Northamptonshire Classical Guitar and Lute Society's aims are:

  • to provide opportunities for the amateur, student and professional classical guitarist and lutenist, as well as for the classical guitar and lute enthusiast, to interact both socially and musically in a non-competitive environment,
  • to further an interest in the classical guitar, lute and related plucked instruments in the local community,
  • to provide concert opportunities for students and professionals based in Northamptonshire.

The society's ambitions are to offer its members:

  • monthly meetings at the historic All Saints' Church in Northampton including an 'open podium' for those members who wish to perform,
  • 'Sul Tasto', the society's newsletter,
  • lectures, workshops and masterclasses,
  • displays by locally based luthiers and other events that may be of interest to its members,
  • inclusion in the NCGLS Register of Tutors (subject to terms and conditions),
  • access to the NCGLS Music Library.
